Securitization and Coping Strategies of Women Sex Workers in Tajikistan

This article analyzes why and how women’s sex work is securitized in Tajikistan. It argues that state actors view as a threat to the nation context of two simultaneous processes: nation-building, centered around family unit, fight against HIV/AIDS. The explores narratives, laws, practices are deployed limit work. also security frameworks experienced navigated by women workers on very local level. Three coping strategies identified: hiding techniques, developing networks befriending influential clients, seeking companionship with other workers.
